Added to that was an excellent orchestral Star Wars soundtrack and brilliant sound effects that also sounded like being taken directly from the movies, creating a dense and highly thrilling atmosphere that made you feel like playing a Star Wars movie. The levels were very well designed and really looked like they could also be in one of the movies. And unlike the famous FPS of that era, Dark Forces even offered a thrilling storyline, centering around you, Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial agent who turned to the rebel side. The game also allowed you to jump and crawl and featured some really nice voice output, like oncoming Stormtroopers yelling: "Stop, rebel scum!", or your own character commenting on achievements and completed objectives, like stating "This was too easy". I loved the game not only because it was set in the Star Wars universe, so that you were able to fight against Imperial bastards instead of the usual monster stuff, but also because of some superb technical innovations like being able to look up and down, complex (lever) puzzles and, most importantly, a thrilling new multi-leveled map layout with rooms that were placed above each other.
As opposed to some reviews back then, I found this to be much more than just another Doom clone.
